2007 Agricultural Outlook Forum and US views on the WTO agricultural negotiations

This paper makes some comments on the paper presented the 1st March 2007 by William R. Cline at the 2007 Agricultural Outlook Forum in Washington. However, if this analysis starts from Cline's paper, it is not addressed specifically to this author but to the highly prevailing consensus among the US officials participating in that Forum and more generally among WTO Members on the issue of agricultural domestic trade-distorting supports. The paper, which focuses mainly on the US offer of 10 October 2005, is not comprehensive by itself since it builds on previous analyses of the same issue.
