NGOs Roundtable Forum on MC6 to be held in Hong Kong

4 October, 2005

The World Trade Organization's (WTO) new Director-General Mr Pascal Lamy will listen to views of non-government organisations (NGOs) at a roundtable forum in Hong Kong on October 16.

The face-to-face meeting has been organised as part of the countdown to Hong Kong's WTO Sixth Ministerial Conference (MC6) in December.

Keynote speakers at the forum are Mr Lamy and Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr John Tsang, who is also the MC6 chairman.

The forum will be held on Sunday, October 16, from 2.30pm to 5pm at the Rayson Huang Theatre, University of Hong Kong.

A government spokesman said the roundtable forum would provide a good platform for NGOs to express, discuss and exchange views on various issues related to MC6.

"We are particularly delighted that Mr Lamy will join this forum, giving him the opportunity to have direct dialogue with many NGOs," the spokesman said.

The full session of the Forum will be webcast live on the MC6 website http://www.wtomc6.gov.hk. NGOs wanting to attend the forum should make reservations with the WTO Sixth Ministerial Conference Co-ordination Office in Hong Kong through e-mail, ngo@wtomc6.gov.hk, or by phone, at (+852)2911-0374, before October 12, 2005. Priority will be given to those NGOs which have applied for registration for MC6.

Mr Lamy will arrive in Hong Kong on October 15 and leave immediately after the forum.
